Grade Two School Health Curriculum

  PHASE VI - Helping and Growing
M Lesson VI-1: Finding the Balance
  VI-1. Students will list everyday health habits.
  VI-2. Students will explain that “balance” is important for healthful living.
  VI-3. Students will explain the importance of balance between diet and exercise.
M Lesson VI-2: Exercise
  VI-4. Students will list benefits of regular exercise.
  VI-5. Students will compare their own pulse rate when resting and when exercising.
  VI-6. Students will demonstrate exercises that increase their pulse rate.
M Lesson VI-3: There Are Lots of Ways to Exercise
  VI-7. Students will use the five problem solving steps to solve a problem involving how to maintain an exercise program.
M Lesson VI-4: What's With the Food Groups?
  VI-8. Students will name the food groups, classify foods into each group, and identify favorite foods in each of the five food groups.
M Lesson VI-5: Combination and “Others” Foods
  VI-9. Students will evaluate combination foods for their contributions to the food groups.
  VI-10. Students will state that some foods contribute very little to our health.
  VI-11. Students will identify how each of the food groups contribute to one's health.
M Lesson VI-6: Healthy Snacks
  VI-12. Students will identify the need to eat meals and healthy snacks at regular intervals.
  VI-13. Students will plan to eat snacks that contain foods from the five food groups.
M Lesson VI-7: Look at All We've Learned–Part I
  VI-14. Students will summarize what they have learned regarding:
  • safety rules,
  • behaviors to prevent substance abuse,
  • the impact of environment on health,
  • care of the eye,
  • care of the ear,
  • health habits, and
  • getting along with others and solving problems.
M Lesson VI-8: Look at All We've Learned–Part II
  VI-15. Students will use what they have learned to make presentations to the class on:
  • safety rules,
  • behaviors to prevent substance abuse,
  • the impact of environment on health,
  • care of the eye,
  • care of the ear,
  • health habits, and
  • getting along with others and solving problems.
  VI-16. Students will plan how they will use what they have learned about their health.
