Grade Two School Health Curriculum

  PHASE III - Pollution: Inside and Out
M Lesson III-1: Safe Use of Medicine
  III-1. Students will define the term “drug.”
  III-2. Students will name four purposes for which medicine might be used.
  III-3. Students will list different forms of medicine.
  III-4. Students will state the rules for safe use of medicines.
M Lesson III-2: Safe From Other Drugs: Caffeine
  III-5. Students will list substances/products that contain caffeine.
  III-6. Students will describe caffeine's potential side effects.
M Lesson III-3: Safe From Other Drugs: Alcohol
  III-7. Students will explain how alcohol affects the body.
  III-8. Students will state that alcohol is harmful and illegal for anyone under the age of twenty-one to consume.
  III-9. Students will classify beverages as alcoholic or non-alcoholic.
M Lesson III-4: Safe From Other Drugs: Tobacco and Nicotine
  III-10. Students will list the effects of tobacco use on the body.
  III-11. Students will define “secondhand smoke” and its effects.
  III-12. Students will state that it is harmful and illegal for anyone under the age of eighteen to use tobacco.
  III-13. Students will demonstrate ways to encourage others to never start using nicotine. (Optional)
M Lesson III-5: Saying “No” to Drugs
  III-14. Students will name three ways to say “no” to someone offering a drug.
  III-15. Students will practice saying “no” to drugs.
  III-16. Students will explain the meaning of chemical dependency.
M Lesson III-6: When Saying “No” Is a Must
  III-17. Students will use the five problem solving steps to solve a problem involving how to keep a friend and stand up for what is right.
M Lesson III-7: Environment and You
  III-18. Students will define the terms “environment” and “pollution.”
  III-19. Students will describe the effect environment has on one's health.
M Lesson III-8: Reducing and Preventing Pollution
  III-20. Students will name sources and effects of pollution.
  III-21. Students will list ways they can maintain a clean and healthy school environment.
M Lesson III-9: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
  III-22. Students will name three ways (reduce, reuse, recycle) to help the environment.
  III-23. Students will demonstrate ways to promote recycling.
