  PHASE III - Drugs Make the News–Bad News
M Lesson III-1: Drugs in the News–Part I
  III-1. Students will summarize factual information on tobacco (smoked and smokeless), marijuana, inhalants, cocaine, and steroids.
  III-2. Students will report on tobacco (smoked and smokeless), marijuana, inhalants, cocaine, and steroids by writing a news article.
M Lesson III-2: Drugs in the News–Part II
  III-3. Students will examine student-written news articles on tobacco (smoked and smokeless), alcohol, marijuana, inhalants, cocaine, and steroids.
M Lesson III-3: Alcohol on the Screen
  III-4. Students will summarize the facts about the effects of alcohol on the body.
  III-5. Students will compose an editorial on alcohol and its dangers.
M Lesson III-4: Advertising Tactics
  III-6. Students will identify the locations and target audiences of advertisements that are made to sell alcohol and tobacco products.
  III-7. Students will analyze advertisements to label the strategies used to sell products.
M Lesson III-5: Advertising for Healthy, Drug-free Activities and Products
  III-8. Students will tell the truth about an advertisement for alcohol or tobacco products.
  III-9. Students will create an advertisement encouraging healthy, drug-free activities and/or products.
M Lesson III-6: Standing Up to Pressure to Use Drugs
  III-10. Students will review skills for standing up to pressure.
  III-11. Students will apply the skills in situations involving substances.
M Lesson III-7: Getting Out of a Jam
  III-12. Students will summarize the difference between abstaining from drugs, using drugs, abusing drugs, and chemical dependency.
  III-13. Students will discuss how to handle situations where someone is abusing drugs or is chemically dependent.
  III-14. Students will develop responses to problem situations using the knowledge and skills they have acquired regarding substances.
M Lesson III-8: Helping Others Out
  III-15. Students will apply their knowledge and skills regarding substances to create an advice column for youth.
  III-16. Students will communicate what they have learned to others in the school.
