The very first editions of the Michigan Model for Comprehensive School Health Education® for grades 7 and 8 were two separate curricula intended for a full year of health instruction at each grade level.
In response to teacher feedback, grades 7-8 content was revised and distributed in modular format, with each module focused on a different risk factor including the six adolescent risk behaviors as identified by CDC. These behaviors include: unintentional and intentional injury, alcohol and other drug use, sexual behaviors, tobacco use, dietary patterns, and physical inactivity. The curriculum that followed for grades 9-12 followed a like format to that of grades 7-8.
NEW APPROACH NOW IN DEVELOPMENT
A brand new high school curriculum is now available.
The current modular format continues to be distributed for HIV/STI Prevention, Gambling Prevention, Sun Safety, and Character Education. All other modular content has been replaced by the new curriculum Skllls for Health and Life, organized not by content area but rather by skills, beginning with an introductory unit of skill development and followed by the application of to various health content.
The latest High School module release is:
Skills for Health and Life, first published in January of 2013.
Healthy and Responsible Relationships: HIV, STIs and Pregnancy Prevention, first published in December of 2007.
