Nutrition Grades 9-12

“Help Yourself to Good Nutrition”

The goals of this module are that students will:

  • Understand how a person's body image can influence eating patterns.
  • Understand the health benefits of eating a variety of foods from the five food groups, in the recommended number and size of servings.
  • Apply their knowledge of healthy weight management to identify myths regarding weight loss and create plans for healthy weight loss.
  • Analyze the difference between healthy and unhealthy eating patterns.
  • Understand how nutrition affects physical activity, athletic performance, pregnancy, and fetal development.
  • Apply their knowledge of nutrition to plan nutritious meals within a budget and at fast food restaurants.
  • Access accurate, reliable information on nutrition-related topics.
  • Understand where to locate help for concerns regarding nutrition issues.
  • Synthesize reliable nutrition information to present research findings to peers.
  • Apply their knowledge about nutrition to formulate a plan for improving their personal nutrition.
