Student Learning Objectives

Lesson 1: Let’s Get Moving!

The students will:
  • Define and differentiate between “physical activity,” “exercise,” and “physical fitness.”

  • State the recommended amount of physical activity needed to achieve health benefits.
  • Compile a list of moderate-intensity activities.
  • Initiate a two-week log of their physical activity.

Lesson 2: Expanding the Options

The students will:
  • Summarize the benefits of being physically active and the potential consequences of being inactive.

  • Examine barriers to being physically active.
  • Develop ways to remove the barriers to being physically active.
  • Identify physical activities that can be done without equipment and in a small space.

Lesson 3: Moving Toward a Goal

The students will:
  • Develop plans for hypothetical situations involving young people who need help planning for physical activity.

  • Identify three physical activities that they enjoy the most and that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
  • Summarize the reasons why some activities are valued more than others.
  • Develop a personal plan for physical activity.
  • Make a commitment to be physically active on a regular basis for personal enjoyment and benefit.

The students will:
  • Plan a project to encourage peers to be physically active.

  • Implement a project to encourage peers to become physically active or maintain a physically active lifestyle.
