A Silent Crisis:
This resource guide
includes a wealth of information for teachers, counselors,
administrators, and others who want to learn more about creating
conditions for learning that are physically and emotionally safe for
all students, including those who are or are perceived to be
lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. With over 50 new
resources, the 5th
Edition includes many practical tools and
strategies for providing safe, respectful and supportive learning
environments. The guide is particularly timely, given recent
headlines about gay teens across the country who have committed
suicide, following bullying and harassment. A Silent Crisis was developed by the Calhoun Intermediate School District, the Michigan Department of Education, and Detroit Public Schools, with feedback from educators and youth advocates throughout Michigan and the nation. It was developed under a Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health.
