School Violence: What's Being Done in Michigan?
The Michigan Model for Comprehensive School Health Education® teaches problem solving and conflict resolution starting at kindergarten and progressing through two violence prevention modules for middle and high school. Student are also taught communications skills, personal safety and sensitivity to others. Family resource sheets encourage the active involvement of parents and connects homes, communities and families in a partnership to keep young people safe. This nationally recognized prevention effort is in over 90% of Michigan's public school districts and 207 private schools reaching over 1,000,000 students and families each school year.
The Michigan Model® Addresses the Issues of Violence
Learning objectives addressing violence issues which are embedded in the Michigan Model K-6 curriculum, can be found within the categories of Safety and First Aid as well as Emotional and Mental Health.
