Michigan Model
for Health®:
Revisions in Progress
Goals of the
Revision There are two major goals for
the revision of the Michigan Model®.
-
Review and revise lessons
to add, change or omit information, health issues, instructional methods, and
materials. The kindergarten through sixth grade Michigan Model for
Comprehensive School Health Education® curriculum was originally written in
1984 and revised in the 1990’s.
- Reduce the number of
lessons per grade level. Educators have consistently indicated that teaching
40-50 health lessons per grade level is not feasible given the other demands
on instructional time. Reducing the number of lessons to 20-30 lessons per
grade level will promote consistency of implementation among teachers using
the Michigan Model® and increase the likelihood that critical content
and skills are taught.

IMPORTANT ONGOING
SUPPORT
It is important to note that
while the revision process continues, and after it is completed, the EMC
will continue to support the curriculum as it stands now. For schools
already implementing the curriculum who do not wish to reduce lesson
counts, materials will remain available. |
