Grade 9-12

Healthy and Responsible Relationships
Content

  • Identify characteristics of healthy, responsible relationships versus unhealthy relationships

  • Identify the benefits of abstaining from sex or ceasing sex if sexually active

  • Describe how STIs are and are not transmitted

  • Rank the health risks of various behaviors

  • Discuss the consequences of STIs on a person's life

  • Identify situations requiring testing or professional health services

  • Identify the laws related to sexual activity

  • Identify contraceptive methods that can reduce the likelihood of pregnancy or disease

Skills

  • Practice effective communication skills with adults and peers

  • Establish personal limits for sexual behavior

  • Locate resources for information and help related to STIs

  • Explore ways the law and other influences impact sexual behavior

  • Practice methods for avoiding or escaping situations that could result in sexual risk taking:
         * limit setting
         * communication
         * refusal

  • Examine the economic, social, and emotional costs of pregnancy and teen parenting
