Kindergarten Phase I Lesson 5

Lesson Title: Similarities and Differences   (25 minutes)
Learning Objective(s)

I-9. Students will draw pictures of themselves that represent ways they are the same as other students and ways they are different. 

Preparation
  • Gather the needed materials.
  • Arrange the classroom to accommodate drawing life-size outlines -OR- duplicate Student Worksheet: Shadow Outline one per child.
  • Decide how you will form pairs for Activity 1
  • Ask parents or older students to assist with Activity 1 if you decide it is needed.
  • Prepare and post the large sheet of paper or poster board with each student's name printed on it -OR- prepare to use a transparency

  • Equipment:  Overhead projector (if using transparency in Activity 1)
  • Student Worksheet: Shadow Outline (optional)
  • Book: I Like Me
  • Ink Pad
  • Crayons or markers
  • Paper (one sheet 4 feet long per student) -OR- use Student Worksheet
  • One large sheet of paper or poster board -OR- blank transparency
