Student Learning Objectives
Step 1: Character–Defined and Demonstrated
The students will:
- Review the definitions and meanings of the six character traits.
- Review behaviors that demonstrate each of the six character traits.
- Relate the demonstration of the character traits to the planning and completion of a service-learning project.
- Examine potential needs that could be addressed by a service-learning project.

Step 2: Preparation–Identifying the Need and Selecting a Project
The students will:
- Discuss their findings on the needs in the school or community.
- Propose four needs to explore further.
- Examine different solutions for meeting the needs.
- Compare different needs and solutions to select a service-learning project.

Step 3: Preparation–Developing a Plan
The students will:
- Design a plan for completion of the project.
- Predict possible obstacles to completion of the project and propose solutions.

Step 4: Action–Implementing the Plan
The students will:
- Implement the service-learning project.
- Revise project plans when needed.

Step 5: Reflection and Demonstration–Reflecting on What We Learned and Sharing It With Others
The students will:
- Analyze the strengths and limitations of the service-learning project.
- Examine what they have learned.
- Evaluate how they have demonstrated the character traits.
- Prepare to share what they have learned with others.
